Find and compare devices with the Smart Home Index
Use the Smart Home Index to filter devices by features, power options and compatibility, then compare your shortlist.

The Smart Home Index is a free directory for finding and comparing smart home devices. It lets you narrow the list by features, power options and compatibility, then compare the devices that remain.
If you have used PC Part Picker, the idea will be familiar: start with the requirements of your setup and use the filters to find equipment that fits.
Search by what you need
Smart home products can look similar while differing in ways that matter. You might need a lightbulb that works with Google Assistant, a camera with a privacy shutter, or a doorbell with a particular power connection.
The Index brings those properties into a searchable database so you can narrow the options before opening individual product pages.

The device directory.
Choose a category, then select the features that matter for your installation. Start with requirements you cannot compromise on, such as power supply or compatibility with the system you already use.

Filters reduce the list to devices worth a closer look.
Compare the shortlist
The comparison view puts device specifications beside each other. You can inspect connectivity, power requirements and supported systems without repeatedly switching between product pages.

Comparing doorbells side by side.
Use the comparison to identify the trade-offs that matter to you. A device that suits one installation may need extra wiring or a different connection in another. Check the manufacturer's information before buying, particularly where a feature depends on a specific model or version.
Getting started
- Open smarthomeindex.com.
- Choose the type of device you are looking for.
- Filter by the features and compatibility you need.
- Compare the remaining devices and check your shortlist against the manufacturer's specifications.
The Index is free to use, with no subscription required. We are continuing to improve the records and add devices. If something is missing or incorrect, you can suggest a device or report the problem.
A directory is only useful when its information is accurate. Those corrections help the next person researching the same equipment.
